As a fifth-century pope, St. Leo the Great reigned during a time of heresy and division in the church and the world. Leo faced these challenges with strong leadership and deep love for his people. When Attila the HunÕs army marched on Rome, Pope Leo personally met him and persuaded him to turn back. LeoÕs profound sermons and writings, which still encourage us today, led him to be named a Doctor of the Church.
