The Rule of St. Benedict created for monks a balanced and reasonable approach to a life of prayer and work. Sadly, some people were envious of Benedict’s influence. One man even tried to kill him with poisoned bread, but a raven flew down and grabbed the loaf! This incident was one of many miracles that allowed Benedict to persist in his vocation – one that changed the world forever.
